Why I Create the Mugs I Create—It’s Bigger Than Business

Let’s be real—I want Walnut Farm Crafts to thrive. I’d love nothing more than to make a great living doing what I love. But beyond the business side, creating these mugs is a way for me to pour encouragement into others.

Because if we’re honest, some of us battle a negative inner voice that’s way too loud. You know the one—the voice that nitpicks every little thing, making you feel like you’re never quite good enough. For some, that voice comes from past trauma. For others, it’s just how we’re wired. For me? It’s a mix of both.

The Inner Critic That Never Quiets

I’ve always been an introvert, but growing up, my father demanded nothing short of perfection. Summer days weren’t for play; they were for studying—eight hours a day. Bs were barely tolerable; Cs? Let’s not even go there. He drilled into me that my intelligence was my greatest asset because, well, I wasn’t exactly “pageant material.”

Now, don’t get me wrong—my dad was a good man. He just understood the harsh realities the world had for a chubby little Black girl. He wanted me to succeed, but in his pursuit of that, positive reinforcement was in short supply.

Fast forward to adulthood, and that inner voice still critiques everything I do. Whether it’s designing a SharePoint form, building a database, or giving a presentation—no matter how many accolades I receive, my mind tells me, “You could’ve done better.” And don’t even get me started on the way that voice tears down my appearance.

Encouragement—One Mug at a Time

Could I use a therapist? Probably. But right now, I want to encourage others. Life is heavy for a lot of people, and I truly believe that daily reminders of our worth are essential.

That’s why I design personalized, inspirational mugs that speak life into people—especially Black women. In my search for designs, I sought out stunning Black women, some in prayer, others just exuding confidence, paired with words that uplift and empower.
