Why I’ll Always Go Overboard for Christmas (and New Flags!)

Hey friends! I’m still a little under the weather, but praying I’ll be back to myself soon. If you’ve been here a while, you already know — spring and fall own my heart, and Thanksgiving and Christmas are my Super Bowls.

Because my dad’s side of the family is mostly gone now (except for my cousin Joe and his family), and my mom’s side is spread out between Alabama and Michigan, we grew up celebrating holidays as a tight little Kentucky transplant of four — and baby listen… my parents made it MAGICAL.

My mom cooked Thanksgiving and Christmas like she was feeding a football team — homemade everything, no shortcuts. And my dad? Whew. He was the Black Clark Griswold before Clark Griswold was even a thing. That man decorated like there was a competition and Jesus was judging from the sky. He once wrapped so many lights around a white tree that by the time we took them off — the tree was BROWN. He would be outside in the cold in his military fatigues with a ruler measuring the spacing between runway lights for Santa’s sleigh. I’m not exaggerating when I say not a branch, bush, roofline, or doorknob was safe — if it stood still, it blinked.

He loved decorating. He loved giving. And he made Christmas unforgettable for me and my sister. I carry that with me now — even though I get a little heavy in the heart every year because he’s not here — the joy of those memories still outweighs the sadness. And that’s a blessing all by itself.

Now — let me show you what I’ve been working on while I’ve been recuperating…. 😂

I had a rush of Thanksgiving flag orders, so I decided to stay ahead and start on the Christmas flags. Y’all… these are ADORABLE. They’re all roughly 11.7 x 17.5 inches, single-sided, and sublimated so the colors stay bright all winter long.
